Laparoscopic and robotic hysterectomy in endometrial cancer patients with obesity: A systematic review and meta-analysis of conversions and complications
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology May 18, 2019
Cusimano MC, et al. - In endometrial cancer patients with obesity (body mass index, BMI>30kg/m2), researchers examined conversion to laparotomy and perioperative complications following laparoscopic (LH) and robotic hysterectomy (RH). For this systematic review and meta-analysis, they identified 51 observational studies reporting on 10,800 endometrial cancer patients with obesity. Endometrial cancer patients with obesity undergoing RH vs LH had similar rates of perioperative complications. However, due to positional intolerance in patients with morbid obesity, RH may reduce conversions.
