Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy Feb 22, 2019
Ithurburn MP, et al. - A sum of 124 young athletes with a mean age 17.1 ± 2.4 years were studied to analyze the variations in knee function and strength during return-to-sport clearance among candidates of following categories: participants who successfully continued to preinjury sports participation, those who did not return to preinjury sports participation, and those who maintained a second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury by 1 year following return-to-sport clearance. They observed that 56% of subjects, fortunately, continued preinjury sports participation whereas 21% sustained a second ACL injury by 1-year post-return-to-sport clearance with greater absolute performance.
