Keratinized mucosa width is associated with severity of peri-implant mucositis. A cross-sectional study
Clinical Oral Implants Research Apr 17, 2019
Grischke J, et al. - Relationships between the width of keratinized tissue and peri-implant mucositis was assessed by researchers in this cross-sectional study in 231 dental implants in 52 subjects. They noted 44 implants in 12 cases with less than 2 mm keratinized mucosa (KM) whereas 187 implants in 40 subjects had ≥2mm KM. They found a significant correlation between reduced keratinized tissue width and peri-implant mucositis and severity of disease in the non-adjusted analysis on the implant level. A significant association of reduced keratinized tissue with the severity of disease was noted in sensitivity analyses.
