Isolation of pathogenic Candida species from oral cavity of postpartum females, and its association with obstetric and dental problems
Microbial Pathogenesis Apr 08, 2019
Khadija B, et al. - Pathogenic Candida spp. colonization in the oral cavity of postpartum females and its association with adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) and dental issues was assessed. Researchers collected and analyzed saliva samples and clinico-demographic data from 267 postpartum females along with 54 non-pregnant females (January 2016–March 2018). Findings revealed high Candida colonization in postpartum females. One to three folds higher risk for APOs and dental disorders was linked to this colonization. The isolated Candida spp. also displayed high esterase activity, Phospholipase activity, biofilm forming ability and antifungal resistance.
