Is retirement associated with physical health benefits? A longitudinal investigation with older New Zealanders
Age and Aging Nov 04, 2018
Szabó A, et al. - Researchers examined physical functioning 8 years pre- and post-retirement to determine the conditions under which retirement might benefit health. They estimated multiple linear trajectories of physical functioning using longitudinal data from the New Zealand Health, Work, and Retirement Study. Findings indicated that retirement may benefit individuals with poorer health and limited resources compared with wealthier and/or healthier individuals. Inequalities experienced by older persons in poor health and socio-economic circumstances prior to retirement might be partly addressed in universal superannuation initiatives.
