Is human papillomavirus and p16 expression associated with survival outcomes in nasopharyngeal cancer?

American Journal of Otolaryngology Jul 16, 2018

Tham T, et al. - Experts assessed whether human papillomavirus (HPV) status was a predictive feature for nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC). This meta-analysis included a total of seven studies from 2014 to 2018, reporting data on 2,646 patients. A definitive conclusion as to the prognostic significance of HPV in NPC could not be drawn, despite the finding in the pooled hazard ratios. HPV in large sample sizes was significantly associated with survival; as seen on subgroup analysis.
