Is fluoroquinolone monotherapy a useful alternative treatment for Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteraemia?

Wu PF, et al. - The clinical outcomes of definitive fluoroquinolone monotherapy vs beta-lactam monotherapy for P. aeruginosa bacteraemia were investigated. The 28-day mortality rate among the patients receiving definitive monotherapy with beta-lactam vs fluoroquinolone stratified by APACHE II and Pitt bacteraemia showed no significant differences in each category. Researchers noted that for P. aeruginosa bacteraemia, fluoroquinolone might be an alternative to beta-lactam as a definitive monotherapy provided they are active in vitro.
