Investigation of grey matter abnormalities in multiple sclerosis patients by combined use of double inversion recovery sequences and diffusion tensor MRI at 3.0 Tesla

Clinical Radiology Jun 08, 2018

Han X, et al. - Grey matter abnormalities in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients were examined in this analysis via combined use of double inversion recovery (DIR) sequences and diffusion tensor (DTI) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 3 T. Study participants were 20 relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients and 20 healthy controls. Researchers examined the relationship between normal-appearing grey matter (NAGM) mean diffusion (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) values and the number of cortical lesions, cognitive impairment, as well as the degree of nerve damage. Microstructural damages were noted in the NAGM of MS patients, and the extent of such damage was associated with the number of cortical lesions. In addition, the severity of the damage associated with increased severity of cognitive impairment and neural defects.
