Invasive epithelial ovarian cancer survival by histotype and disease stage

Journal of the National Cancer Institute Jan 25, 2019

Peres LC, et al. - Data from 28,118 incident epithelial ovarian cancer cases diagnosed from 2004 to 2014 from SEER were studied to assess patterns of survival patterns by histotype and disease stage in invasive epithelial ovarian cancer. Authors observed localized/regional-stage carcinosarcoma and distant-stage mucinous, clear cell, and carcinosarcoma had a greater risk of mortality vs high-grade serous within 2 years after diagnosis, with the most obvious association for localized/regional carcinosarcoma and distant-stage mucinous. They highlighted ovarian cancer should be viewed as a group of different diseases, not a single disease, in order to understand the unique features of each histotype, which would help in reducing mortality.
