BMC Geriatrics Jan 02, 2018

Komagamine J, et al. - This observational study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of an intervention to improve appropriate polypharmacy for elderly patients admitted to the hospital for hip fractures. The physicians revealed that the intervention to improve appropriate polypharmacy in elderly patients with hip fracture was correlated with a significant reduction in the total number of PIMs but was not significantly associated with a reduced risk of death or any new fracture. For elderly patients with hip fractures, this intervention (focused only on polypharmacy) could not effectively improve outcomes.
