Interferon-γ and CXCL10 responses related to complaints in patients with Q fever fatigue syndrome

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases Jun 27, 2018

Raijmakers RPH, et al. - Considering that Q fever fatigue syndrome (QFS) develops in nearly 20% of patients with acute Q fever, researchers investigated the role of C. burnetii-specific interferon-γ (IFNγ) as well as interleukin-2 (IL-2), CXCL9, CXCL10, and CXLC11 production in QFS patients. Findings suggested QFS patients with persisting complaints exhibited a difference in cell-mediated immunity vs those who improved. QFS patients with persisting complaints showed significantly higher IFNy and CXCL10 production in association with stimulation with C. burnetii vs those seen in QFS patients who recovered from their complaints.
