Interatrial block in prediction of all-cause mortality after first-ever ischemic stroke
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Feb 16, 2019
Baturova MA, et al. - In this study involving patients in the Lund Stroke Register in 2001–2002 (n=235), researchers assessed interatrial block (IAB) as a predictor of all-cause mortality during 10 years after ischemic stroke. The definition of IAB was a P-wave duration ≥ 120 ms without = partial IAB (n = 56) or with = advanced IAB (n = 41) biphasic morphology (±) in the inferior ECG leads. Through linkage with the Swedish Causes of Death Register, they evaluated all-cause mortality. Death of 126 patients was documented during follow-up. Findings revealed that all-cause mortality after ischemic stroke was predicted by advanced IAB, but mostly in patients without additional cardiovascular comorbidities
