Inhibiting autophagy overcomes docetaxel resistance in castration-resistant prostate cancer cells

International Urology and Nephrology Feb 22, 2018

Wang Q, et al. - Herein, the docetaxel-resistant mechanism was investigated. Also, researchers examined the impact of tea polyphenols (TP) on autophagy and its associated mechanism in human castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cell lines PC3 and DU145. Docetaxel-induced protective autophagy in CRPC cells, via activation of C-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) pathway and then Bcl-2 phosphorylation and Beclin1 dissociation, was noted. As a result of Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway activation by TP, inhibition of docetaxel-induced autophagy and improved therapeutic efficacy of docetaxel in CRPC cells was reported.
