Influence of race/ethnicity on prevalence and presentation of endometriosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Mar 30, 2019
Bougie O, et al. - The evidence for the influence of race/ethnicity on the prevalence of endometriosis was systematically reviewed as it may help improving patient care. Searching CENTRAL, Medline, PubMed, Embase, LILACS, SCIELO, and CINAHL databases, as well as the grey literature, they included 20 studies in the review and used 18 studies to calculate the odds ratio (OR) with 95% CI through a random effects model. Findings revealed that race/ethnicity influence the prevalence of endometriosis. Compared to White women, Black women were less frequently diagnosed with endometriosis while Asian women were more likely to have this diagnosis. They encountered a scarcity of literature examining how race/ethnicity influence symptomatology and treatment access, preference and response.
