Influence of implant neck and abutment characteristics on peri-implant tissue health and stability. Oral Reconstruction Foundation Consensus Report
Clinical Oral Implants Research Apr 26, 2019
Schwarz F, et al. - This consensus meeting was undertaken to assess how implant neck and abutment characteristics influence peri-implant tissue health and stability. Based on two systematic reviews focusing on the effect of titanium implants with different collar designs/ surface modifications and the abutment material on the stability of marginal bone levels (MBL's), peri-implant health, and survival rates, group and plenary discussions were done. Outcomes revealed the main influence of microstructure (ie rough surfaced) of the implant neck on MBL's. Significantly higher increases in bleeding on probing were reported in correlation with titanium abutments when compared with zirconia abutments. During the consensus meeting, elaboration of consensus statements and specific recommendations for future research was done.
