Inflammation and trajectory of renal function in community-dwelling older adults

Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Jan 31, 2018

Salimi S, et al. - This study was performed to examine whether the inflammatory state of aging was a risk factor for accelerated renal function (RF) decline using inflammatory biomarkers and RF measures collected over 9 years of follow-up in relatively healthy individuals. In older adults independent of diabetes mellitus (DM) or blood pressure, baseline tumor necrosis factor alpha receptors (TNFα-R) levels and their rates of change were significantly associated with RF decline and incident chronic kidney disease.
