Infection by HTLV-1 is associated with high levels of proinflammatory cytokines in HIV-HCV-coinfected patients

Brites C, et al. - In endemic areas, HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) coinfection is a frequent finding. The clinical/immunological consequences of the triple infection were explored. Researchers observed that in patients with HIV-HCV, HTLV-1 coinfection increased the plasma levels of proinflammatory cytokines and influenced the outcomes.
