Infection after operative fixation of tibia plateau fractures. A risk factor analysis
Injury Jul 12, 2019
Chan G, et al. - Researchers examined how common comorbidities influence the risk of postoperative infection in tibial plateau fractures via performing a retrospective study of 210 consecutive operatively treated patients at two Level 1 Trauma Centres over a 27-month period. Observations revealed no association of smoking, diabetes and obesity with increased postoperative infection in these cases. The only independent predictor of infection after fixation of tibial plateau fractures was excessive alcohol consumption >13 units/week. Hence they recommend paying extra attention to perioperative antibiotics and postoperative surveillance for infection in such patients.
