Incident atrial fibrillation and the risk of congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, end-stage kidney disease, and mortality among patients with a decreased estimated GFR
American Journal of Kidney Diseases Nov 22, 2017
Massicotte-Azarniouch D, et al. - This study was implemented to determine the incident atrial fibrillation (AF) and the risk of congestive heart failure (CHF), myocardial infarction (MI), end-stage kidney disease, and all-cause mortality among patients with a decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Findings demonstrated that in patients with eGFRs < 90 mL/min/1.73 m2, incident AF was related to a high risk for adverse outcomes. Since the risk was reported to be exceedingly high within the first 6 months after AF diagnosis, outcomes may be improved via therapeutic interventions and monitoring.
