Incidence, risk factors, and outcome of neonatal acute kidney injury: A prospective cohort study
Pediatric Nephrology Jun 08, 2018
Shalaby MA, et al. - In this single-center prospective cohort study, researchers determined the incidence and outcome of neonatal acute kidney injury (AKI) in a single Saudi Arabian center, level 2\3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Infants who survived less than 48 h after admission, had evidence of congenital renal anomalies, or had insufficient data were excluded. In more than half of all NICU admissions, the occurrence of AKI was reported. AKI was found to have an association with an increased risk of mortality. Among smaller and sicker infants, a higher incidence of AKI was reported. Such a patient population deserves close monitoring of renal function during hospitalization and after discharge.
