Incidence, risk factors, and outcome of clostridioides difficile infection following urological surgeries

World Journal of Urology Jan 23, 2021

Nguyen KA, Le DQ, Bui YT, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes linked with (Clostridioides difficile infection) CDI after urological surgery, which is identified to be the leading cause of nosocomial diarrhea and a growing public health burden. Querying the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), 98,463 patients undergoing urological surgery in 2015–2016 were identified with an overall 30-day CDI incidence of 0.31%. This nationally representative cohort thus exhibited a low incidence of CDI. However, there was substantial variation across surgery types. Most common occurrence of CDI was observed following radical cystectomy and it was noted to be linked with potentially modifiable factors such as blood transfusion and significantly longer length of stay.
