Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy Aug 08, 2021

Wang H, Chen D, Tan G, et al. - This meta-analysis revealed about 6.9 patients with status epilepticus (SE) per 1000 strokes. More often, patients developed non-convulsive status epilepticus after stroke, and likely risk factors for SE after stroke include African American race, alcohol abuse and renal disease.

  • PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Online Library, and Clinicaltrials.gov were explored.

  • Total 1,650 articles were considered, and 17 articles with 2,821 instances of SE among 1,088,087 instances of stroke were included.

  • The incidence rate of SE post-stroke was 6.90 per 1000 total strokes.

  • A reduced rate of SE was noted in relation to hypertension and diabetes.
