Incidence, predictors and clinical outcome of early bleeding events in patients undergoing a left ventricular assist device implant
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Mar 08, 2018
Muslem R, et al. - Researchers, in this study, determined the incidence, predictors and clinical outcome of early bleeding events in patients after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. They observed a high prevalence of an early bleeding event needing surgical exploration after LVAD implantation. This was especially evident in patients bridged with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and with pre- and postimplant thrombocytopenia. Patients who experienced an early bleeding event had a significantly worse 90-day survival rate compared to patients who did not.
