Incidence of new-onset diabetes mellitus and association with mortality in childhood solid organ transplant recipients: A population-based study
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Aug 02, 2018
Chanchlani R, et al. - Using Ontario health administrative data, researchers assessed the long-term risk of new-onset diabetes and its influence on mortality among children undergoing solid organ (kidney, heart, liver, lung and multiple organ) transplant between 1991 and 2014 vs healthy non-transplanted children. Data suggest an elevated risk of diabetes in transplant recipients. Persistence of this risk, even after a decade, highlights how important ongoing surveillance is in these patients. Childhood transplant recipients developing diabetes after transplantation showed an increased risk of mortality.
