Incidence of and risk factors for cryptococcosis in kidney transplant recipients in Taiwan— A nationwide population-based study
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Aug 30, 2019
Chen YT, et al. - Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) were examined for the long-term incidence of cryptococcosis and for risk factors for its incidence. In this retrospective population-based cohort study, researchers analyzed data of 4,933 KTRs and 49,930 matched patients. Findings suggest a dramatically higher risk of developing cryptococcosis, especially with central nervous system involvement, among KTRs vs non-KTR matched cohort; the two cohorts had cryptococcosis incidence rates of 10.59 per 10,000 person-years and 0.4 per 10,000 person-years, respectively. The risk of developing cryptococcosis was even higher among older KTRs and those with cancer.
