Incidence and time trends of joint surgery in patients with psoriatic arthritis: A register-based time series and cohort study from Denmark
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Jul 17, 2019
Guldberg-Møller J, et al. - In comparison with the general population, researchers explored time-trends and cumulative incidence of joint surgery among patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Eleven thousand nine hundred sixty PsA patients (mean age 50 years) were registered from 1996 to 2017. Investigators found that joint surgery was around twofold greater among PsA patients from 1996 to 2012 compared to general population cohort (GPC). Nearly 30% of PsA patients had received any surgery after 15 years of follow-up, and even an individual diagnosed with PsA at 18–40 years of age had a greater risk of surgery than 60+-year-old GPCs. Thus, in the present therapy of PsA, elevated surgical rates constitute an unmet need.
