Incidence and risk factors of surgical site infection after total knee arthroplasty: Results of a retrospective cohort study
American Journal of Infection Control Jun 05, 2019
Baier C, et al. - In this 4-year retrospective cohort study, researchers examined 2,439 patients undergoing knee replacement for the incidence and risk factors of surgical site infections. Infections developed in 84 patients (3.4%). Findings revealed an increased risk of surgical site infections in independent correlation to postoperative bleeding, Ahlbäck's disease, obesity, smoking, and male gender, so they recommend considering these risk factors when caring for those patients.
