Incidence and risk factors for instrumentation-related complications after scoliosis surgery in pediatric patients with NF-1
Spine Dec 06, 2018
Yao Z, et al. - In pediatric patients surgically treated for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) dystrophic scoliosis, experts evaluated the incidence and risk factors of instrumentation-related complication (IRC). Results demonstrated that 17/59 (28.8%) patients suffered IRCs. Three risk factors for IRC after surgical treatment of NF-1 dystrophic scoliosis are age less than 9 years, kyphosis more than 50° and application of growing-rod. Stratification of preoperative risk to reduce IRC incidence was aided by the identification of these risk factors. Moreover, counseling patients and their families during the consent process could be done based on the findings.
