Incidence and risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus in twin vs singleton pregnancies

Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics Jul 11, 2018

Hiersch L, et al. - The incidence and risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) were compared between women with twin and singleton pregnancies. Researchers performed a retrospective study of all women who had a twin or singleton birth in Ontario (2012–2016). Findings revealed an increased risk of GDM among women with twins, mainly due to a higher rate of diet-treated GDM. Women with twins displayed a similar effect of known risk factors for GDM to that observed in singletons despite being at higher baseline risk of GDM.
