Incidence and predictors of opioid prescription after traumatic injury

JAMA Surgery Oct 25, 2017

Chaudhary MA, et al. - The authors performed this work to assess the incidence and predictors of opioid prescription in trauma patients at discharge in a large national cohort. In this work, the incidence of opioid prescription at discharge (54.3%) closely matched the incidence of moderate to severe pain in trauma patients, thereby suggesting appropriate prescribing practices. They supported that the decision to prescribe opioids should be guided by injury severity and level of pain.
