Incidence and perioperative risk factors for early acute kidney injury after radical cystectomy and urinary diversion

Furrer MA, et al. - The risk factors for acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) and urinary diversion (UD) were identified by the experts. Findings suggested an increased risk for AKI in patients with an operative time>400 minutes. Hence, for preserving renal function, the role of postoperative fluid management ought to be considered. Male sex, obesity, intraoperative blood loss, and a low preoperative plasma creatinine were the independent predictors of postoperative AKI. Hence optimized perioperative nephroprotective strategies were of importance particularly in male and obese patients.
