Impact of providing preexposure prophylaxis for human immunodeficiency virus at clinics for sexually transmitted infections in Baltimore city
Sexually Transmitted Diseases Nov 17, 2018
Kasaie P, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the optimal delivery strategy of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) risk reduction. For PrEP delivery, clinics for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) seems to be an efficient venue. In this work, they quantified the added value of STI clinic–based PrEP delivery using an agent-based simulation of HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM). Findings suggest that PrEP could have enhanced efficiency and effectiveness when delivered to MSM who attend STI clinics. STI clinics may be an important venue for PrEP implementation in case of achieving high levels of adherence in this population.
