Impact of prehospital airway interventions on outcome in cardiac arrest following drowning: A study from the cares surveillance group
Resuscitation Jan 22, 2021
Ryan KM, Bui MD, Dugas JN, et al. - The outcomes of drowning patients who received advanced airway management were reported by analyzing data from the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES). The CARES database yielded data of 2,388 drowning patients; of these, 70.4% were male, 41.8% white, and 13.1% survived to hospital discharge. Outcomes revealed correlation of using supraglottic airways with significantly lower odds of survival to hospital admission and discharge. However, no significant differences were noted in survival to discharge with favorable neurological outcome between airway management techniques.
