Impact of potassium iodide on thyroidectomy for Graves' disease: Implications for safety and operative difficulty
Surgery Nov 22, 2017
Randle RW, et al. - This study was planned to assess the impact of potassium iodide on thyroidectomy for Graves' disease. In this work, potassium iodide administration seemed reducing gland vascularity but did not change the overall difficulty of thyroidectomy. However, preoperative use of potassium iodide solution seemed associated with less transient hypoparathyroidism and transient hoarseness, suggesting that potassium iodide enhanced the safety of thyroidectomy for Graves' disease.
