Impact of malaria in pregnancy on risk of malaria in young children: Systematic review and meta-analyses
The Journal of Infectious Diseases Apr 02, 2020
Park S, Nixon CE, Miller O, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the risk of acquiring malaria among progeny of women with malaria during pregnancy via performing a systematic review and meta-analyses. Searching MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library, they identified 2,053 eligible studies; of these, 19 met inclusion criteria for the systemic review. The meta-analyses were performed on 11/19 studies that were quantitative. As per results, the overall risk of malaria in young children significantly increases in correlation to malaria during pregnancy via indeterminate mechanisms. This highlights the urgent necessity to implement safe and highly effective strategies to prevent malaria during pregnancy.
