Impact of developmental defects of enamel on quality of life in 5 years old children

Andrade NS, et al. - In this cross-sectional observational study, 566 kids of age 5 years old, in Teresina, Piaui, Brazil were analyzed to estimate the consequence of developmental defects of enamel (DDE) on quality of life of subjects. They reported the prevalence of DDE of 33.7%. A negative association of the presence of DDE with oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children's self-reports was noted. They also found that enamel hypoplasia had a negative influence on the physical function and oral health domains. There was a negative impact on the social aspect of diffuse opacity.
