Impact of adjuvant radiation on artificial urinary sphincter durability in post-prostatectomy patients
Urology Jan 11, 2018
Srivastava A, et al. - The intent of the authors was to comprehend the implications of adjuvant radiation on artificial urinary sphincter durability (AUS) in post-prostatectomy patients. Herein, results displayed that worse AUS device survival over time was portended by adjuvant radiation. This decrease in revision-free survival was found to be concentrated in an increase in infection/erosion complications. Findings recommended cautious selection of patients with prior urethral injury or manipulation, who also underwent adjuvant radiation when receiving an AUS since low device survival was experienced by this subset of patients.
