Immediate vs delayed loading of mandibular implant-retained overdentures: A 60-month follow-up of a randomized clinical trial
Journal of Clinical Periodontology Jun 01, 2019
Salman A, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed 60-month outcomes of a randomized controlled clinical trial, which compared two unsplined implants loaded immediate and delayed, supporting a Locator retained mandibular overdenture. For the 60-month follow-up, 23 of the 30 patients were available. The data presented in this work showed a statistically significant difference in the immediate loading group at 60 months with a smaller change in radiographic bone level. Between 12 and 60 months, no implants were lost. At 60-months, the survival rate for both groups was 100% per protocol implant. There was no difference between the groups in the peri-implant soft tissue parameters and prosthetic needs. According to this observational, post-trial follow-up study, immediate and delayed loaded implants supporting a Locator retained mandibular overdenture exhibited similar clinical results.
