IL-22–expressing CD4+AhR+ T lymphocytes are associated with RANKL-mediated alveolar bone resorption during experimental periodontitis
Journal of Periodontal Research May 03, 2019
Monasterio G, et al. - Researchers ascertained if interleukin-22 (IL-22)–expressing CD4+AhR+ T lymphocytes detected in periodontal lesions were correlated with alveolar bone resorption during experimental periodontitis. The expression levels of IL-22 and AhR and the Th1-, Th2-, Th17- and T regulatory-associated cytokines were analyzed using a murine model of periodontitis using qPCR in periodontal lesions. This investigation shows the increase in IL-22–expressing CD4+AhR+ T lymphocytes in tissues affected by periodontitis and displays a positive relationship between IL-22, expression of RANKL, and resorption of alveolar bone.
