IGF‐I in cord blood is predictive of final height in monozygotic twins with intra‐twin birth weight differences

Clinical Endocrinology May 19, 2020

Kasner C, Schulte S, Schreiner F, et al. - Owing to the different availability of prenatal nutrients, monozygotic twin-pairs with discordant birth-weight (bw) provide an excellent model for evaluating the effect of genes and environment and for assessing the predictive value of bw, birth-length (bl), and cord blood (cb) IGF‐I concentration on final height (FH). Twenty-eight monozygotic twin‐pairs with intra‐twin bw‐/bl‐differences were analyzed at birth and longitudinally until FH. Findings suggested that the prenatal environment that led to disparities between bw‐/bl‐ and cbIGF‐I in monozygotic twins had a long-lasting effect on growth until FH. Both anthropometric data are predictive of FH at birth and cbIGF‐I.
