Identification of risk factors for postoperative recurrent Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis

Journal of Pediatric Surgery Aug 12, 2018

Dong Q, et al. - Risk factors for developing postoperative recurrent Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis (HAEC) were studied via a retrospective review of patients treated with standard procedures for Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) from January 2010 to December 2016. A significant relationship was seen between postoperative HAEC and the level of aganglionosis, preoperative malnutrition and enterocolitis, as well as postoperative anastomotic stricture/leak and intestinal obstruction. The development of postoperative recurrent HAEC could be prevented via improving infant nutrition and preventing preoperative enterocolitis.
