Hybrid emergency room system improves timeliness of angioembolization for pelvic fracture
The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Feb 06, 2020
Ito K, Nagao I, Tsunoyama T, et al. - Researchers sought to determine whether hybrid emergency room system (HERS), a novel trauma resuscitation room equipped with a CT scanner, fluoroscopy equipment, and operating room setup, would improve the timeliness of angioembolization (AE) for pelvic fracture. From April 2015 to December 2018, they identified 96 patients for inclusion in this retrospective study. The HERS group and the non-HERS group had 24 patients and 72 patients, respectively. The timeliness of AE for pelvic fracture improved in correlation to the implementation of the HERS. The survival rate of more severely injured patients was better in correlation with HERS. They suggest building a new team involving the addition of interventional radiologists to the traditional trauma resuscitation team to improve the benefit of the HERS.
