Hospital outcomes of transcatheter versus surgical aortic valve replacement in female in the United States
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Oct 13, 2017
Ando T, et al. - This study compared in-hospital mortality and complications in female patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Based on findings, it was concluded that TAVR may be a better option for patients with underlying comorbidities that predispose them at higher risk for complications. However, the decision regarding optimal mode for aortic valve replacement should be made taking into account higher cost and increased risk of need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation associated with TAVR, although these were reported rarely.
