HIV incidence, prevalence, and undiagnosed infections in U.S. men who have sex with men
Annals of Internal Medicine May 19, 2018
Singh S, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis, the researchers estimated HIV incidence and prevalence and the percentage of undiagnosed HIV infections overall and among men who have sex with men (MSM). Participants were persons aged 13 years or older with diagnosed HIV infection. The findings demonstrated that expansion of HIV screening to lessen undiagnosed infections and increased access to care and treatment to achieve viral suppression were critical to reduce HIV transmission. They suggested that access to prevention methods, such as condoms and pre-exposure prophylaxis, also was required, especially among MSM of color and young MSM.
