Hip fracture incidence and mortality in chronic kidney disease: The GLOMMS-II record linkage cohort study

BMJ Open Apr 19, 2018

Robertson L, et al. - Authors enquired regarding chronic kidney disease (CKD) associations with hip fracture incidence and mortality in Scotland. Eligible candidates included individuals (≥15 years) with sustained CKD stages 3–5 and those on RRT, and a 20% random sample of those with normal renal function, in the resident population in 2003. Higher incidence of hip fracture was discovered in CKD stages 3-5 compared with normal estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). A rise was noted in the post-hip fracture mortality only in CKD stage 4. Obtained results indicated that a reduction in the hip fracture incidence in CKD through regular fall and fracture risk review ought to reduce overall deaths after hip fracture in the population.
