Higher serum levels of uric acid are associated with a reduced insulin clearance in non-diabetic individuals
Acta Diabetologica May 22, 2018
Fiorentino TV, et al. - Researchers ascertained if higher levels of uric acid (UA), a known risk factor of type 2 diabetes, are associated with a reduced insulin clearance in non-diabetic individuals. For this analysis, four hundred forty non-diabetic individuals were stratified in tertiles according to serum UA levels. By euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp, insulin clearance and skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity were assessed. By the liver IR index, hepatic insulin resistance was estimated. Results of this study suggested that higher serum levels of UA could affect insulin clearance by impairing hepatic insulin sensitivity.
