Hemodialysis induces an acute decline in cerebral blood flow in elderly patients
Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Mar 07, 2018
Polinder-Bos HA, et al. - The repetitive circulatory stress of hemodialysis induces ischemic cerebral injury via an unclear mechanism. In the current investigation, it was demonstrated that conventional hemodialysis in elderly patients induced a significant reduction in global and regional cerebral blood flow (CBF), and repetitive intradialytic decreases in CBF could be one mechanism by which hemodialysis induces cerebral ischemic injury.
