Heart failure among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus: Real-world data of 289,954 people from a diabetes database
Diabetic Medicine Feb 06, 2019
Stoyanova D, et al. - Using the Prospective Diabetes Registry (DPV), researchers compared people with type 2 diabetes mellitus with and without heart failure in terms of metabolic control, therapeutic regimen, and comorbidities. Using demographic statistics and adjustment for confounders based on linear and logistic regression analysis, over 250,000 people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (2000-2015) were analyzed. Compared with people without heart failure, those with type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart failure were older, more often women, and presented with longer diabetes duration. According to findings, heart failure is common in diabetes mellitus; however, the prevalence in the DPV was lower than anticipated. Intensified therapy with insulin, lipid-lowering drugs, and anti-hypertensive agents in this cohort may help to explain the reason for improved metabolic control in heart failure.
