HDL functionality and cardiovascular outcome among non-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients

Journal of Lipid Research Jun 02, 2018

Untersteller K, et al. - Researchers determined if compositional and functional properties of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) were predictive of cardiovascular outcome among non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients who participated in the CARE FOR HOMe study. A mean follow-up of 5.1 years was performed to assess the predefined primary endpoint, a composite of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events including cardiovascular mortality and death of any cause. They found that in such a patient population, neither HDL quantity nor HDL composition or function independently predicted cardiovascular outcome.
