HBsAg positivity during pregnancy and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Viral Hepatitis Jul 13, 2018
Tan J, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to ascertain if hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection manifested during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). They analyzed 23 cohort studies involving 3,529,223 participants and realized that HBsAg positivity during pregnancy has a moderate effect on increased risk of GDM. This effect could have a substantial impact on pregnancy given the size of the population with HBV infection worldwide. The results were robust to sensitivity analyses.
